A Cross- Sectional Study on Factors Influencing the Balance of Work, Health and Family (WHF) among Interventional Radiologists
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Aim: Burnout and stress-related health disorders are increasingly common among physicians, including interventional radiologists. The objective of this study was to analyze factors influencing the work–life balance and overall well-being of. Material: An online survey was developed to assess work-related stress, family dynamics, and personal health. The survey covered aspects of knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding work–life balance. It was distributed among IRs, and responses were reviewed and analyzed by three interventional radiologists. Results: The survey results revealed several factors associated with burnout among interventional radiologists (IRs). Univariate analysis identified key contributors, including the presence of weekend duties (98.9%, p = 0.02), lack of support groups at the workplace (39.1%, p = 0.005), challenges in interactions with administrative staff (66.3%, p = 0.001), inability to spend quality time with family (32.6%, p = 0.035), and difficulty finding time for personal activities and hobbies (57.6%, p = 0.0002). However, in the multivariate analysis, two factors remained statistically significant. IRs who experienced difficulties with administration had an odds ratio (OR) of 2.77 (95% CI: 1.12–6.48, p = 0.02), indicating that administrative challenges significantly contributed to burnout. Additionally, those unable to engage in personal activities they enjoyed were at even higher risk, with an OR of 4.79 (95% CI: 1.42–16.1, p = 0.01). These findings highlight the importance of addressing administrative challenges and ensuring time for personal fulfillment to reduce burnout among IRs. Conclusion: Burnout is a prevalent issue among interventional radiologists and requires immediate attention. Strategies to mitigate burnout include fostering teamwork, creating support structures for major events, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and dedicating time to family.
