Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The "Jamshid and Khurshid" masnavi, written in Turkish by Tacaddin Ibrahim Ahmed, stands out as an important linguistic monument due to its reflection of the language characteristics, lexicon, social life, and culture of the period in which the poet lived. Research conducted on the language of this work helps in understanding the historical development of the language and the changes in its lexical composition. In the article, archaic Turkic words in "Jamshid and Khurshid" are examined in comparison with the language of other Turkic monuments, and traces of these archaic forms in modern Turkic languages and dialects are also explored. The research reveals that some lexical units in the lexicon of "Jamshid and Khurshid" have survived in various Turkic languages without any change in meaning, but with phonetic changes. These words are still actively used in modern Turkic languages. Some Turkic-origin lexical items in the work have gradually become archaic in modern Turkic languages, disappearing entirely from use, while others have remained in literary language but are preserved in dialects and regional speech. Some terms and expressions in the work, while used with the same phonetic variant over time, have undergone semantic changes, acquiring new meanings. Such words demonstrate the continuity of the development of the language and its traditions, while also showing how the dynamic structure of the language is maintained. These words, entering the core lexicon of the language, adapt to the natural changes of the language in line with the social and cultural development of the society, ensuring the continuous improvement of the language.
