The first three novels are deeply rooted in African culture in general and Igbo way of life in particular. The fourth and fifth novels are set in independent Nigeria with the aim to put the disillusionment of the nation after independence. The fifth novel Anthills of the Savannah is a very devastating picturization of the newly independent nation and the native ruthless rulers.
