Abstract: The Amsterdam Declaration on Funding Research recommendation 9 requires "Funders should require citation practices for research software that recognise substantial contributors to all aspects of the software" and the Software citation principles list out the reasons why. The JATS4R recommendation on software citations provide guidance to publishers on how to tag this in the JATS XML. However, this presentation provides data sourced by Europe PMC from the open access literature to show what is happening in reality when it comes to software citation in the literature.
