Doomscrolling, Information Overload, and Societal Anxiety: A Critical Analysis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Digital media has reshaped not only how we access information but also how we experience time and meaning in our constantly connected world. This article critically examines phenomena such as doomscrolling, the disjoint between analogue and digital time representations, and emerging behaviours like doomsday prepping, exploring how these trends affect public consciousness and collective anxiety. By connecting research from media studies, psychology, and sociology, this analysis provides evidence-based insights into the conditions fuelling digital disorientation and suggests pathways toward reclaiming agency in the information age.
