Reconstruction of the atmospheric blocking frequency variability during the last 600 years
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This repository contains the winter (DJF) blocking day frequency anomaly reconstructions using predictors selected from global gridded temperature and precipitation observed (file: blocking_1891-2022_OBS.nc) and paleo-reanalysis (EKF400v2) fields (file: blocking_1602-2003_EKF400v2.nc). The anomalies are calculated relative to the 1980-2022 blocking day frequency climatology. Details about the methodology and data used for these reconstructions can be found in our paper (Atmosphere 2025, 16(4), 477; https://doi.org/10.3390/atmos16040477). I attached also the blocking frequency reconstruction for the period 1421-2008, based on the same methodology, but using temperature and precipitation predictors selected from ModE-RA paleo-reanalysis dataset (file: blocking_1421-2008_ModE-RA.nc). All blocking frequency reconstruction files are in ncdf format and were created using the CDO package. These blocking frequency reconstructions are useful for the analysis of weather and climate extreme variability during the last ~600 years.
