Performance Evaluation and Emission Analysis of Internal Combustion Engines Under Variable Operating Conditions

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Internal Combustion (IC) engine testing plays a vital role in understanding engine behavior, enhancing performance, and reducing emissions. This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the performance, combustion characteristics, and emission profiles of a single-cylinder four-stroke IC engine under varying load and speed conditions. Standard testing procedures were followed to measure key parameters such as brake power, thermal efficiency, specific fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions including CO, HC, NOx, and CO₂ levels. The tests were conducted using conventional diesel fuel, and results were benchmarked against acceptable performance standards. The results establish the foundation for future optimization techniques and the incorporation of alternative fuels by offering insightful information about the engine's environmental effect and operational efficiency. This work contributes to improving testing methodologies for better reliability, repeatability, and regulatory compliance in engine development processes.
