Harnessing Myth and Folklore to inspire Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Activism in Ireland
Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: This MSc thesis explores how Irish mythology and folklore — particularly the tale of Tochmarc Étaíne — can be used to foster deeper connections to place, biodiversity awareness, and environmental activism in Ireland. Through storytelling workshops at key mythological landscapes like Corlea and Brí Leith, the research demonstrates that traditional stories can encourage stewardship and engagement. The work is particularly relevant to heritage education, community conservation, and seasonal festivals such as Lughnasa and Samhain.
