Enhancing Engineering Education: Evaluating the Impact of a Flipped Classroom on Student Performance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In response to the persistent challenges associated with large, lecture-driven courses in engineering education, the flipped classroom has emerged as a promising instructional strategy. This pedagogical model restructures the traditional format by delivering instructional content—such as recorded lectures and guided exercises—outside of class, while dedicating classroom time to collaborative, hands-on problem-solving and peer discussion. By integrating the principles of active, problem-based learning with the structured delivery methods of conventional lectures, the flipped classroom offers a cohesive model that bridges contrasting educational theories. his study explores how adopting the flipped classroom model affects the academic achievement and learning experiences of engineering undergraduates. Using the framework of self-determination theory, the study explores how the model supports student motivation through the promotion of autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
