Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Blood donation is a critical aspect of healthcare, ensuring the availability of life-saving blood supplies for patients in need. However, the level of participation among healthcare professionals in blood donation remains a significant concern. This study examines blood donation practices and associated factors among healthcare professionals at Somali Sudanese Hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia. The research focuses on assessing healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to voluntary blood donation, as well as identifying barriers that affect their willingness to donate. Using a cross-sectional study design, data was collected through structured questionnaires administered to healthcare professionals at the hospital. The findings indicate that while most healthcare professionals recognize the importance of blood donation, the actual practice remains low due to various barriers, including fear of anemia, lack of time, and limited access to donation facilities. Socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, and occupation also influence blood donation practices among healthcare workers. The study underscores the need for targeted interventions to improve voluntary blood donation among healthcare professionals. Recommendations include implementing awareness campaigns, providing incentives for donors, and ensuring easy access to donation centers within healthcare institutions. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, hospital administrators, and public health officials
