Abstract: Air pollution has emerged as one of the most critical challenges facing modern society, with profound implications for human health, environmental sustainability, and overall quality of life. The growing levels of harmful pollutants in the atmosphere have been linked to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and environmental degradation. In this context, accurate and continuous monitoring of air quality is essential for assessing pollution levels, identifying sources, and formulating effective control strategies. This paper presents the development of a real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring system using Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The proposed system is designed to measure key air pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), temperature, humidity, andatmospheric pressure. These parameters are captured using a suite of environmental sensors integrated with a microcontroller-based platform, enabling efficient data acquisition and processing. The device architecture includes a Wi-Fi-enabled ESP32 microcontroller, a set of calibrated sensors, and a solar-powered battery system for sustainable, continuous operation. Sensor data is processed in real-time to calculate the AQI based on standardized government formulas, and the results are displayed on a high- resolution touchscreen interface. Additionally, the collected data is uploaded to the cloud via ThingSpeak for remote monitoring and graphical visualization. This IoT-driven solution offers a cost-effective, portable, and scalable approach to air quality monitoring. It not only empowers individuals and communities with real-time pollution data but also supports policymakers and researchers in making informed, data-driven decisions. By enhancing public awareness and promoting proactive environmental behavior, this system contributes to the broader goal of ensuring cleaner air and a healthier living environment.
