Do females have bigger brain? Sexual dimorphism in brain size of Nasonia wasps (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Female Nasonia wasps are more chemically sensitive and chemically 'intelligent' than males, as they respond to various chemical cues throughout their lives. Since males emit four pheromones and females only one (Kurtanovic et al, 2022.), females must be more chemically sensitive than males. Additionally, females rely on chemical cues to locate the habitat where flies live, find fly pupae, and assess whether the host is suitable for egg deposition, further enhancing their chemical sensitivity (Kurtanovic et al, 2022.).
