Pulsations in A- and F-type stars: Challenges and prospects
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: A and F stars are exceptional laboratories characterized and shaped by a large diversity of physical processes acting in them. These processes include varying rotational speeds, a wide range of chemical compositions, and magnetic fields and activity resulting in spots on the stellar surfaces. Pulsating A- and F-type stars can be found in very different evolutionary stages as well — from the pre-main sequence to the ZAMS and up to the post-main-sequence phase — which corresponds to quite different interior structures. Asteroseismic analyses of A and F stars are challenged by the interplay of these physical processes. But at the same time this diversity provides ideal conditions for advancing our knowledge of stellar physics and is crucial for refining models of stellar evolution. In this presentation, I will review recent findings from studies on AF pulsators and address key challenges that still hinder our complete understanding of these stars.
