Pneumatic braking Systems: Case Study

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Braking systems are critical for ensuring vehicular safety and operational control. Pneumatic braking systems, which operate using compressed air, have become the preferred choice for heavy-duty vehicles and trains due to their robustness, fail-safe design, and high braking force. This paper explores the fundamental working principle, components, advantages, disadvantages, and key applications of pneumatic braking systems. A real-world case study of Indian Railways highlights their large-scale implementation and practical benefits. The study concludes that despite certain limitations, pneumatic braking systems remain essential in modern transportation for their reliability and efficiency.
