Smart Aquaculture: IOT AND AI Application for Sustainable Fisheries
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning is revolutionizing aquaculture by enhancing efficiency, sustainability and fish health management. As global seafood demand rises, aquaculture plays a crucial role in food security while facing challenges such as environmental impact, disease outbreaks and resource optimization. IoT-enabled sensors provide real-time monitoring of critical water parameters, improving decision-making and minimizing risks. Automated feeding systems and AI-driven predictive analytics optimize resource utilization, reducing waste and operational costs. Additionally, smart aquaculture systems integrate renewable energy solutions and cloud-based platforms to enhance productivity and environmental sustainability. However, challenges such as high initial costs, connectivity issues, data security risks and maintenance constraints limit widespread adoption. Addressing these barriers through government initiatives, technological advancements and farmer training programs will be essential for the long-term success of IoT-driven aquaculture. This paper explores key IoT innovations, benefits, limitations and future prospects, highlighting their transformative impact on sustainable aquaculture practices.
