Prevalence of Common Mental Disorders Among Multiprofessional Health Residents at a University in Bahia

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: There is evidence that students enrolled in Multiprofessional Health Residency Programs (MHRP) are exposed to occupational risks. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) among students of two Multiprofessional Residency Programs, one in the area of Family Health, identified in this research as MHRP1 and in the field of Urgency and Emergency, MHRP2, linked to a Bahian university, as well as other conditions related to mental health and the work environment. This is a quantitative, prevalence and descriptive study carried out with residents regularly enrolled in MHRP1,2 and trained in nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and psychology. Data collection was carried out virtually, with a questionnaire designed to survey sociodemographic, work, health and lifestyle variables, in addition to the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) instrument. The data were organized into tables using the Excel software program, followed by analysis of the information and articulation of empirical data with the theoretical framework of the research. The results showed a global prevalence of CMD of 72.4%, 82.3% among MHRP2 and 58.3% among MHRP1. Aspects related to the female gender, ethnic-racial identification and characteristics of the work process, such as working hours, may be interfering factors that have an impact on the mental health of residents, making it necessary to carry out confirmatory studies to elucidate this hypothesis. These findings lead to discussions and critical reflections about residents experiences, as well as the operationalization of programs and their impacts on mental health.
