Type: dissertation
Abstract: Proper nutritional education during pregnancy is essential for ensuring the health and well-being of both mothers and their unborn children. This study examines the effect of health professionals' nutritional education on pregnant women aged 15–49 in Ainaba District, Sool, Somaliland. The research assesses the role of healthcare professionals in providing nutrition-related guidance, the level of nutritional awareness among pregnant women, and the impact of antenatal nutrition education on maternal and fetal health outcomes. Using a descriptive research design, data was collected from pregnant women and healthcare professionals through structured questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicate that while health professionals play a crucial role in delivering nutritional education, many pregnant women have limited knowledge about proper dietary practices during pregnancy. Barriers such as cultural beliefs, inadequate healthcare access, and poor maternal education levels further hinder the effectiveness of nutritional awareness programs. The study highlights the need for comprehensive maternal nutrition education programs, improved healthcare professional training, and increased community engagement to enhance nutritional awareness among pregnant women. Recommendations include strengthening antenatal care services, developing culturally sensitive nutrition campaigns, and integrating nutrition education into routine healthcare visits. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare providers, and organizations working to improve maternal and child health in Somaliland.
