The Influence of Islamic Culinary Tradition in Greek Contemporary Cuisine

Abstract: : Modern Greek culture has been greatly influenced by the culinary imprint of Islamic cuisines planted over centuries of interaction and shared history between Greeks and multiple Islamic peoples. In this study, utilizing a qualitative research method which included literature examination, questionnaires, and field observations, we demonstrate in detail how Islamic gastronomy has entwined itself within the practices of modern Greek cooking. The evidence is compelling, and shows the Islamic influence in a variety of aspects, from the use of specialized spices, spices, and cooking methods to crockery used to preserve certain dishes. Maybe most strikingly, the research traces how Islamic customs infused Greek communal dining customs and hospitality ideas. These of course provide some important insights for culinary researchers and educators who strive to construct more nuanced understanding of Greek culinary heritage.
