Review on Malaria

Year: 2025

Abstract: Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites of the genus Plasmodium, which are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It remains a significant global health concern, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, where environmental conditions favour mosquito breeding. The disease manifests with symptoms such as fever, chills, and flu-like illness, and can progress to severe complications or death if untreated. Despite ongoing efforts, malaria continues to pose a major public health challenge due to issues like drug resistance, limited access to healthcare, and the lack of an effective vaccine in widespread use. Current control strategies include the use of insecticide-treated nets, indoor residual spraying, and antimalarial medications. Advancements in diagnostic tools, treatment protocols, and vaccine development are critical to reducing the global burden of malaria and achieving long-term eradication goals.
