The Impact of Digital Humanities on Reading Culture

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This research paper explores the wide-ranging effects of Digital Humanities on modern reading culture. The rise of Digital Humanities has brought significant changes to the way we read, understand, and engage with texts. In the past, reading was usually a private, focused, and linear activity involving printed books. Today, it has become more interactive, multimodal, and often collaborative due to digital tools and technologies. Innovations like text mining, digital annotation, distant reading, and hypertext platforms have changed both the form of texts and the ways we create and share meaning in academic, educational, and public settings. The paper argues that digital reading, while it may question traditional ideas of deep reading and literary authority, also offers fresh opportunities for understanding, collaboration, and cultural diversity. In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of finding a thoughtful balance between digital and print reading, suggesting that the future of reading will depend on blending both approaches.
