Russian Aggression and Western Strategy: the Ukrainian Dimension
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The paper explores how Western strategic thinking has shifted in response to Russian aggression against Ukraine. It traces the path from historical neglect to the growing recognition of Ukraine’s key role in European security. The analysis covers NATO and EU engagement, persistent double standards, and political constraints that limit a unified Western response. The authors argue for viewing Ukraine as an equal partner rather than a passive aid recipient, stressing the need for coherent, long-term strategies to strengthen democratic resilience and counter authoritarian revisionism.
