Abstract: Algorithmic trading (AT) has revolutionized the financial markets all over the world, including in India, by leveraging technology for faster and more efficient trade execution. This paper examines the evolution of algorithmic trading (AT) in Indian stock markets, supported by statistical data and regulatory developments. It explores the opportunities algorithmic trading (AT) presents for market participants and the economy while also addressing challenges such as regulatory concerns, market manipulation and cybersecurity risks. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for fostering a balanced ecosystem.
