Abstract: This thesis is a poetry collection exploring the intermingling of capitalism, toxic desire, isolation, and community. The goal of this collection is to find the connections between self and place and the role that hardships play in these connections. It follows a character’s journey arc of a speaker facing strife from addiction, poverty, and isolation. It is split into three sections moving from deep set isolation and external observation to stronger community and internal explorations.
