Abstract: This article investigates the Chained Woman Incident in China, a shocking case of human trafficking and abuse, and its connection to deep-seated gender inequality rooted in traditional Chinese values. Through an analysis of this incident alongside selected works of modern Chinese literature, the article reveals the persistence of these injustices and argues for the critical role of citizenship education in promoting women's rights and social change in China.
