Literature in English Study : a Potent Strategy for Second Language (l2) Learning

Abstract: Among a plethora of Language Learning Strategies (LLS) available in Applied Linguistics, the study of Literature in English , particularly at the secondary school level, is essentially observed in this paper as a very potent and effective Second Language (L2) learning strategy that pays off in studying a Target Language (TL) such as the English Language For this reason, those essential ingredients of Literature that make it an efficacious strategy in one’s quest towards the study and mastery of the English Language are spotlighted; other varied strategies that complement literary strategies are equally captured in this paper. Interestingly, this work is also aimed at influencing an English Language teacher’s and the learner’s approach towards Literature in English. Following these are certain recommendations to the L2 teacher and learner.
