Coordinated BES and UPFC control strategy for the frequency control of renewable integrated multi area power system

Type: article
Abstract: The load frequency control (LFC) is an important service in establishing the dynamic stability of the interconnected power system (IPS). Thus, this paper suggests the tilt-integral-derivative-filter (TIDF) using the water cycle algorithm (WCA) as the LFC regulator for the diverse sourced IPS, and the analysis is performed for 10% step load disturbance (SLD) on area 1. However, the efficaciousness of the TIDF controller performance is revealed with the performances of other controllers by performing the comparative analysis. Later, in order to attain the improvement in the system performance, a coordinated control approach of battery energy storage (BES) and a unified power flow controller (UPFC) is incorporated. The simulation analysis revealed the improvement in system performance to a considerable extent with the employment of the coordinated control strategy. The robustness of the proposed control strategy is finally validated by conducting the robustness test in terms of different loadings.
