Abstract: Achieving climate protection goals requires the integration of distributed energy resources and new end consumers in the electrical distribution grids. Distribution system operators are under obligation to integrate these in the electricity grid and, in addition, to optimize, strengthen and expand the grid. In this context, the scope for action in planning and operation offers potential for grid optimization, which is addressed in current research work. A challenge arises from the insufficient data and calculation basis provided by grid models of real medium- and low-voltage grids. These are generally not published by grid operators for privacy reasons and due to the sensitivity of the information. Nevertheless, grid models are necessary for the development of algorithms and the computation of grid studies. As a consequence, various approaches are being pursued in academia to determine synthetic grid models depending on specific use cases. Existing modeling methods to generate georeferenced medium-voltage grids already achieve a high level of conformity with publicly available information on grid structure data. However, there are significant discrepancies between low-voltage grid models and real grid structures. This research work therefore addresses the question whether and with which method a generation of synthetic, geo-referenced grid models of the low-voltage level can be achieved to provide a more realistic representation. Because the modeling of the medium-voltage level is usually based on the underlying low-voltage level, it must be ensured that plausible medium-voltage grid models can still be determined. Therefore, three sub-objectives are pursued in this work: the modeling of a georeferenced supply task, the determination of synthetic low-voltage grid models and finally the determination of synthetic medium-voltage grid models. As a result of the developed method, synthetic, georeferenced grid models for the medium and low voltage level are calculated. In order to validate the plausibility, a total of 36301 low-voltage and 385 medium-voltage grids are created, covering the concession areas of twelve grid operators and a share of 7.4% of the geographic area and 13.2% of the residential consumers of Germany. The evaluation of the structural grid data shows that the developed method achieves a significantly higher conformity with the published structural grid data of distribution grid operators than previous synthetic grid models.
