Study on a cyan-colored signal lamp for communication in mixed autonomous traffic

Type: article
Abstract: Although traffic is already regulated by numerous laws and social conventions, there are still situations where the right-of-way is not evidend. In such cases, participants must coordinate and communicate with each other. In future autonomous mixed traffic, communication will no longer occur exclusively between humans but will also include autonomous vehicles, creating more confusion about how to communicate. To investigate a communication method, a study was conducted where a cyan-colored signal light was used as a human-machine interface for communication in a deadlock situation. This signal light is intended not only to indicate the autonomous driving status but also to convey the vehicle's intention to waive the right-of-way. Various lighting functions were examined to indicate the intention of the vehicle, including both existing and novel concepts that could be proposed for integration into road traffic. The results of the study will be presented in the paper and the presentation.
