Parental linguistic input and language development in a Greek-speaking child with ASD: Results from a naturalistic intervention approach
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Parental input is a critical factor in language development not only in for typically developing children but also in for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The aim of the intervention study presented here was twofold: a) to explore the grammatical characteristics of parental input in the case of a minimally verbal Greek-speaking child with ASD, and b) to examine changes in the verbal and non-verbal behaviour of the child. The findings indicate that parents need training on how to communicate with their child and that parent-child communication can benefit significantly from targeted language intervention programs.
