الديمقراطية ومنعطف الحداثة

Abstract: This study seeks to trace the evolution of the concept of democracy at the moment of the modernist turn, especially in terms of transformation in viewing the individual through the presence of the concept of citizenship instead of the pastoral perception of individuals. Furthermore, the research will attempt to examine the situation within the Islamic discursive space, to determine whether the Islamic experience, in terms of theory and practice, has managed to bring about the same transformation. The study questioned the possibility of sustaining and developing the democratic system independently of the core values of modernity, especially the value of citizenship, and whether it is feasible to establish democracy within a political culture rooted in medieval traditions, whether in Christian/Western or Islamic civilizations.
