Type: article
Abstract: In the Napoleonic period, Italian cartography was also of great interest to Italian states, especially those that came into direct contact with the French government and its innovative laws compared to the old regime. The State of the Church was no exception either and a young cartographer, already a pupil of Giovanni Maria Cassini, drew up a whole series of cartographies of the various regions that made up the State, he was Bernardino Olivieri, active from 1795 to 1832. To his art we owe a whole series of maps both at the beginning of the Napoleonic era and after the Restoration of the old national states. Olivieri is also credited with an Italian Itinerary compiled in 1809 and a writing system. He is a particularly interesting author even if his work is not among the best known.
