AgriPV in Norway: Evaluating the Initial Performance and Lessons Learned

Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This study evaluates the performance of a vertical AgriPV installation against three roof-top photovoltaic installations in Skjetlein, Norway, under varying climatic conditions. The comparison of the measured data for some chosen months reveals a strong correlation between measured and expected values on sunny summer days, while it shows a significant variation on cloudy days. The harsh climate at the Norwegian coastline, characterized by cold winters, frequent clouds, humidity, and strong winds, significantly impacts solar energy production in Skjetlein. Initial analyses indicate that the AgriPV energy yield on sunny days is comparable to south-facing sites. During winter, vertical AgriPV panels with their 90° slope remain snow-free and still can produce energy, and they even benefit from snow reflection. The first AgriPV installation in Norway demonstrates promising results in both energy production and crop growth, suggesting potential economic benefits for farmers through more efficient land use.
