Abstract: From the mid-1930s, the Tamil film industry in the Chennai province of British India was involved in the Indian freedom struggle. In 1937 assembly elections, famous actress and singer K. B. Sundarampal campaigned for the Indian National Congress. But after that Congress did not use film artistes for political purposes any more. But the Dravidian movement made the most of the film industry; The film industry also made good use of politics through the Dravidian movement. That is why the Tamil Nadu film industry has played a major role in the development of the Dravidian movement. Tamil films have greatly helped the Dravidian parties come to power in Tamil Nadu and stay in power for more than four decades. Ga. N. Annadurai, M. Karunanidhi, M. G. Ramachandran, J. Jayalalitha and four people associated with the film industry have served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In the 1940s, the Dravidian movement and film artists came into contact with the influence of K.N. Annadurai in DK.
