Technology recommendation for water recycle according to quality and usage needs
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This deliverable, D2.3, focuses on developing technology recommendations for water recycling based on quality and usage needs. The methodology integrates legislative insights, application-specific requirements, and empirical data from demonstration units. Advanced technologies such as Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs), and Electrodialysis (ED) were evaluated alongside traditional methods like UV and ultrafiltration-treated effluent. AI tools facilitated data assessment, enabling optimal use case identification for each technology. Recommendations include using AOPs for potable reuse, MBRs for nonpotable urban uses, and ED for agricultural irrigation in saline regions. These findings support sustainable water management practices, promoting resource conservation and environmental protection in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
