Endophytic Bacteria: Mysterious Supporters in Medicinal Plants

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Endophytes are one of the least understood members of microbial community. They live inside plant without causing harm in symbiotic relationship. Endophytes have three main functions in plants: they stimulate growth, improve disease resistance and raise stress tolerance. Additionally, by synthesizing bioactive chemicals, they protect their host plant. The bioactive compounds may possess antioxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-cancer properties. Sophisticated methods like metagenomics and high throughput sequencing have improved our comprehension of these bacteria' diversity and roles. Large-scale endophyte cultivation and the investigation of novel species are planned areas of future study. The ongoing investigation of endophytes opens the door to novel therapeutic possibilities.
