CIRCULAR FoodPack Policy Brief: Can Flexible Food Packaging Go Circular?

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Between 2021 and 2024, the CIRCULAR FoodPack consortium, representing the entire value chain of plastic packaging waste recycling, has worked on designing circularity for flexible packaging, demonstrated the technical realisation of the various steps required to obtain Post-Consumer Recyclates, and how to integrate the PCR in new packaging meeting the high standards for food protection and safety. Based on the findings and experience from the project they wrote this Policy Brief that provides policy makers and stakeholders in the European Union with recommendations for urgent and necessary actions to enable a sustainable circular economy for flexible plastic packaging. Note: This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101003806.
