An Overview of Child Trafficking
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The current study on the research issue seeks to determine the prevalence of child trafficking, its scope, and how we may counteract it by successfully enforcing existing laws in India. The primary cause for child trafficking, its scope, geography, historical context, national and international legal framework, current laws, schemes, and traditions in India have all been investigated to determine the effectiveness or downsides of child trafficking in India. It has been observed that existing laws are not being implemented effectively, and there is a lack of public awareness of their rights. As a result, society is indifferent to the issues of child trafficking for begging, child prostitution, child labor, organ trade, drug trafficking, and smuggling.Child trafficking is a type of modern slavery that is rapidly expanding, changing, and diverse. It involves serious human exploitation, violence against children, child abuse, and abuses of child rights. Modern slavery and human trafficking (MSHT) is a serious global public health concern, with victims facing significant short- and long-term physical, mental, psychological, developmental, and even generational threats to their health. Children who are more vulnerable to MSHT, victims (in active exploitation), and survivors (post-MSHT exploitation) are visiting healthcare facilities, providing vital windows of opportunity for safeguarding and health intervention. It can be difficult to identify child victims of contemporary slavery. Understanding the variety of potential physical, mental, behavioural, and developmental health manifestations, as well as the complexity of children's responses to threat, fear, manipulation, deception, and abuse, is beneficial to healthcare providers.Healthcare practitioners are also expected to exercise influence beyond the care of particular patients. MSHT survivor involvement improves the joint development of evidence-based methods to prevention, intervention, and aftercare for affected children and families.
