Climate Change Impacts on Water Quality and Human Health
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Climate change is increasingly influencing water quality, which in turn has profound implications for human health. Changes in precipitation patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and shifts in ecosystems are altering the dynamics of water bodies, making them more susceptible to contamination. These changes can introduce new challenges for water treatment, exacerbate the spread of waterborne diseases, and threaten the availability of clean drinking water. This paper reviews the impacts of climate change on water quality, including the effects on microbial contamination, chemical pollutants, and water availability. Additionally, it explores the resulting human health risks and proposes strategies to mitigate these impacts, focusing on sustainable water management, enhanced monitoring systems, and adaptive measures to safeguard public health.
