Exploring Android App Vulnerabilities: An Ethical Hacking Perspective with Penetration Testing and Reverse Engineering Analysis
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In today's digital era, the widespread usage of Android applications underscores the urgent necessity forstrong security measures to safeguard user data and privacy. This paper delves into the domain ofAndroid app security, employing an ethical hacking approach alongside comprehensive penetrationtesting and reverse engineering analysis to uncover vulnerabilities. Through meticulous examination ofAndroid applications, the study aims to identify potential security weaknesses susceptible to exploitationby malicious entities. Ethical hacking methods are utilized to replicate real-world attacks, assessing theresilience of Android apps against a range of threats. Penetration testing assumes a central role insystematically evaluating security controls, identifying vulnerabilities such as insecure data storage, flawed authentication mechanisms, and inadequate encryption protocols. Reverse engineering techniquesare employed to dissect the internal mechanisms of Android applications, uncovering concealedfunctionalities, potential backdoors, and obscured vulnerabilities in the codebase. By scrutinizing theapplication's architecture, permissions, and third-party dependencies, this analysis offers valuable insightsinto potential avenues for attack and areas requiring remedial action. The research underscores theimperative of a proactive stance on Android app security. By leveraging ethical hacking methodologies, developers and security professionals can pinpoint and address vulnerabilities before they are exploited. This research contributes to enhancing the overall security posture of Android applications, fostering asafer digital environment for users worldwide. By raising awareness of prevalent security threats andproviding actionable insights for risk mitigation, the study seeks to empower stakeholders in safeguardingthe confidentiality and integrity of Android app data.
