Information as the Foundation of Reality
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This report proposes a fundamental shift in scientific ontology by redefining information as the primary foundation of reality, with matter and time as its emergent properties. Traditional physics has long treated information as an auxiliary mathematical construct, yet breakthroughs in quantum mechanics, relativity, and entropy theory suggest that information itself is the most fundamental entity. Through a multi-level approach, we explore the paradox of music as an entry point to understanding sensory vs. rational perception, leading to a deeper investigation of matter as structured information. We demonstrate how the principle of unitarity, quantum entanglement, and the black hole information paradox support the idea that information is conserved and non-material. We further argue that time is not an absolute dimension but rather a method of structuring information, inherently linked to the observer effect in quantum mechanics and the curvature of spacetime in general relativity. Finally, we present a reformulation of the DIKW (Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom) hierarchy, introducing a fifth level: Meaning, which unifies the ontological structure of information processing. This work lays the groundwork for a post-materialist scientific paradigm, where the universe is not a system of interacting particles but an evolving informational structure.
