The Glasgow Gamble
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article examines the complexities and challenges of the Glasgow Climate Summit, highlighting the persistent cycle of pledges without action and questioning what constitutes real success in climate diplomacy. It explores the summit’s goals—net-zero emissions, ecological protection, climate finance, and international cooperation—and the hurdles to achieving tangible progress amid geopolitical and economic obstacles. The piece critiques the gap between ambitious declarations and actual implementation, emphasising that true progress depends on governments’ commitments to honour their promises. Ultimately, it questions whether Glasgow will mark a meaningful turning point or merely add to the long history of unfulfilled climate commitments.
