Abstract: The report provides an overview of cultural business models with emphasis on sustainable tourism in rural communities. The report outlines four different configurations of cultural business models, which come with different barriers and opportunities. The organising categories are the 1) types of assets (tangible/intangible) and 2) the organisation of the offerings (centralised/diffused). The report also outlines potential avenues for strengthening cultural business models and promoting sustainable tourism in rural communities.Emphasis is on contracts, governance, and communication. Multiple case examples are provided to exemplify the multitude of cultural business models in Europe and beyond.
