Synthesis, Characterization and Anti-HIV Evaluation of Some Novel 2-(substitutedphenyl)-5-methyl-3-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: A series of novel 2-(substituted phenyl)-5-methyl-3-(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones (4a-g) were synthesized, structurally confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and MS spectral analysis, further evaluated for their anti-HIV activity and cytotoxicity in MT-4 cells infected with wild-type HIV-1 strain IIIB and HIV-2 strain ROD in comparison with nevirapine (NVP), azidothymidine (AZT), dideoxycytidine (DDC) and dideoxyinosine (DDI), which were used as reference drugs. The experimental results indicated that none of the synthesized compounds inhibited the replication of HIV-1 (IIIB) and HIV-2 (ROD) in MT-4 cell cultures at subtoxic concentration.
