Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The research focuses on the avian fauna within a 100-kilometer radius of the Kalaburagi region, including the KBN University campus in Kalaburagi city. The research location, Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) is 45 meters above sea level, between 170 ‘04 – 770 42’ longitudinal and 160 12’ – 170 46’ north latitude. Gulbarga experiences a semi-arid climate typical of the South Indian peninsula, with temperatures ranging from 140C to 450C from winter to summer and an average rainfall of 702 mm. The forest area in Gulbarga district covers 275 square miles, accounting for around 4% of the geographical location. The forests in the northeastern zone are mostly deciduous, with dense tree cover. The study aimed to determine and assess the species composition, relative abundance, and distribution of the region’s avifauna. The survey was conducted using the line and point transect approach. A total of 35 bird species were recognized, representing 8 orders and 20 families of the regional avifauna. The species were classified as resident, winter, and summer migratory. This study identified insectivorous, omnivorous, piscivorous, carnivorous, frugivorous, and granivorous birds.
