Type: article
Abstract: The evolving nature of global work environments has accelerated the adoption of flexible work models, leadingmultinational enterprises (MNEs) to embrace blended work practices a strategic combination of on-site and remotework arrangements. These hybrid models are reshaping organizational structures, redefining team dynamics, andtransforming how international businesses deliver value across culturally and geographically diverse markets. Thisconceptual paper investigates the theoretical underpinnings of blended work practices and their potential impact oninternational business performance. It offers a multifaceted understanding of how blended work can function as astrategic enabler in the global business landscape by combining insights from five major organizational theories: theIntegration-Responsiveness Framework, Resource-Based View (RBV), Institutional Theory, Sociotechnical SystemsTheory, and Contingency Theory. From the contingency perspective, the adaptability of work models to local andglobal environments enhances operational fit. The RBV highlights how blended work supports the development andutilization of rare and inimitable resources, such as global talent and digital capabilities. Sociotechnical SystemsTheory emphasizes the alignment of human systems with technological infrastructures, while Institutional Theoryunderscores the influence of local cultural and regulatory environments on work practices. The IntegrationResponsiveness Framework reveals how blended work can simultaneously drive global efficiency and localresponsiveness. A conceptual model is proposed to demonstrate how blended work practices, when properly managed, can enhance organizational agility, innovation, employee engagement, and ultimately international businessperformance. This model serves as a foundation for future empirical research and offers strategic guidance for businessleaders seeking to leverage hybrid work for global competitiveness and sustainable growth.
