Abstract: The concept of "compensatory skills" is considered as a phenomenon, the possession of which will allow you to diversify speech and express your thoughts in an accessible form. The definition of the concept of "compensatory skills" proposed by L. Bachman was fundamental in conducting our research. The means aimed at the formation of these skills in schoolchildren have been studied. The principles of selecting material for creating exercises necessary for the development of compensatory skills in foreign language learners are considered.
