Linguistic Bias in Al Hiring Systems: A Postcolonial and Multilingual Justice Perspective
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This working paper investigates how AI-powered hiring systems reproduce linguistic bias in multilingual, postcolonial societies, using India as a case study. Drawing on theories of linguistic justice, algorithmic fairness, and postcolonial ethics, the author proposes a value-aligned design approach for LLM-based recruitment tools. The paper aims to contribute to discussions around ethical, inclusive AI design, and support the goals of the alignAI network hosted by the Institute for Ethics in AI at the Technical University of Munich.
