Residual Vacuum Energy and the Cosmological Constant from Irrational Phase Geometry

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper presents a novel solution to the cosmological constant problem grounded in the Origin Axiom—a scalar field theory defined by a topological obstruction to perfect phase cancellation. The theory introduces an irreducible complex scalar field Φ(xμ)=ε eiℏS(xμ)Φ(xμ)=εeℏiS(xμ), whose potential is modulated by an irrational phase factor: V(Φ)=2α(1+cos⁡(ϕ⋅arg⁡Φ)),V(Φ)=2α(1+cos(ϕ⋅argΦ)), where ϕϕ is the golden ratio. Due to the irrational nature of the phase rotation, the potential can never reach its minimum of V=0V=0, enforcing a non-zero residual vacuum energy as a geometric necessity. This residual energy, suppressed by a factor ∼1/ϕn∼1/ϕn, naturally aligns with the observed dark energy scale without requiring anthropic tuning or inflationary fine adjustments. The resulting vacuum exhibits an average equation of state ⟨ω⟩≈−0.72⟨ω⟩≈−0.72, consistent with cosmological data, while producing an accelerating scale factor solution through the Friedmann equations. Key predictions include: A strictly non-zero vacuum floor forbidding exact nullification. Deviations from ω=−1ω=−1 detectable in future surveys (e.g., LSST, Euclid). Possible scalar field relics (oscillons) persisting into late cosmological time. Observable modulations in the CMB and ISW effect due to irrational phase drift. Unlike quintessence or cosmological constant models, this framework defines dark energy as a structural residue of topological phase space—offering a falsifiable and minimal geometric explanation for late-time cosmic acceleration.
