Role of Menopause in the Development of Type 2 Diabetes in Women

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: During the menopausal transition, various phenotypic and metabolic changes occur that affect body mass, fat distribution and energy expenditure, as well as secretion and insulin sensitivity. Collectively, this may predispose women to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus (CHD). Many middle-aged women experience climacteric symptoms, including high water levels and night sweats. Then menopausal hormone therapy (MCT) is prescribed. MGT has a beneficial effect on glucose homeostasis in both women without CH2 and women with CH2. In the past, SD2 was considered equivalent to cardiovascular disease (CVD), which suggests that women with SD2 should not receive TGQ. This view may still deter many doctors from prescribing MCT to these patients. However, there is now strong evidence to support a case-by-case approach after careful assessment of GCC risk.
