Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: When Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yuns first gave a few bucks to a struggling basket weaver in 1974, the microfinance revolution was born. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to him. The concept of microfinance has now spread to Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa, but the most well-known microfinance programs originate from Asia. Dr. Yuns started a microfinance program among women in Bangladesh in 1976 as a result of the widespread famine that occurred in that country in 1974 (Abdurrahman, 2007).
